I friend sent me a e-mail with this new frontosa called a black widow. I know it's been talked about before, but I'm bring it up again. I would like to know what you guys and ladies think about them. To me it looks like a genetic experiment gone bad. Here is the link.

TR6, Stass, do you know anything about these? They do look like cow frontosas.

They have been out for about 3 years.
they also go by the name panda frontosa.
i don't think they look like a cow in general, but i think you mean a holstein breed.
anyway.

They are pretty much a line bred moon/y stripe frontosa.

There are other "ideas" on frontosa feature manipulation, but frontosa don't breed or reach maturity like central americans ( leading to flowerhorn and blood parrots) and mbuna and peacocks (leading to OB types and other non native strains).

frontosa take forever to get to breeding age, and in general do not have huge spawns.

so it takes many years to create a new type that may be pleasing to a buyer.

the people creating this fish are well aware of the fact that most frontosa people are not into this fish, just like the flowerhorn/blood parrot people are well aware that the average buyer of that fish is not a ACA member.

there is a market for fish like that, thats why the fish is created.

I saw those frontosas in someone's tank. They had 2 of them along with some mobas. They look too fake for me.

Rich said it, they are just a line breed Front. Their is a market for them though and the price is high. Not my cup of tea, but to each his own.
