If they are that rare surely they should be trying to captive breed them.

but $3500!!! think of the amount of WC fronts that would buy!

I bought one of those about 15 years ago. Then they went for about $30. It died about two year ago. I thought that they were actually extinct now.

like most fancy plecos, Panaque suttoni used to sell for $35-40 here.
I still see them elsewhere for $999-1500.

Ouch! That's a lot! I though my zebra plecos hit my wallet hard, I couldn't imagine paying that much for a fish!

There are alot of fish in the hundreds and thousands realm, just like there is for reptiles and birds, and mammals.

There are also plenty of people who will pay.

People who live fine in a 100K house, don't understand why people in the san francisco bay area pay over a million for a simple place.
Same thing with cars, i don't get the price people will pay for a car.

People think i'm crazy for what Zaire frontosa cost, or my plecos. I think what people risk to bring in Asian arrowana are crazy.
A MD went to jail for bringing in illegal arrowana.

everybody has their limits on what they think is OK.
I have friends who blow thousands at Vegas.
I don't gamble that way, i guess i do it with fish instead.
